Igue-Ehana Community Drag Lawyer Before IG Over Parcel of Land

Elders and people of Igue-Ehana community in Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo state yesterday cried out to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase to save them from the hands of a lawyer.
They say the lawyer has so far engaged in the illegal detention, arrest, harassment and threatened the lives of some elders and leadership of the community with a view to abusing the peaceful coexistence and development of the area.
Specifically, the people accused one Barrister Odaro, a legal practitioner, of allegedly spearheading the peoples many travails that led to illegal arrest and detention of two elders of the community on Monday this week at the Edo state police command.
They also accused Odaro of allegedly threatening the life of secretary of the community’s development association, (CDA), Mr. Frank Imasuen and enlistment of names of the Odiowere of the community Chief Patrick Aduwa, Paul Edosa, Lugard Idele, Frank Ebenovbe, Peter Edorodion, Evans Airhunmwunde and Francis Ekhaguere as persons who maliciously damaged and stole his property, a matter that is presently before the police in the state.
Besides, Barrister Odaro further allegedly listed a dead man, late Pa Sunday Aduwa, who passed on about three years ago (2013) as one of the suspects and elders of the community whom he accused of stealing and malicious damage of his property for which two of the elders; Paul Edosa and Lugard Idele have been in police detention since the past three days.
But Odaro when contacted by our correspondent yesterday on his GSM phone failed to answer nor reply to a text message to him on the allegations.
At the center of the problem is a disputed parcel of land belonging to Igue-Ehana community which the lawyer allegedly claimed belonged to him and in the process boasted to use his connection to deal with suspects even as the elders of the community maintained that their community and that of the legal practitioner have nothing in common neither does his community share land with them.
Already, there is a pending suit with number B/451/12 at the High Court sitting in Benin Edo state presided over Justice E. O. Ahamiojie and filed by Igue-Ehana community against one HRH Ogieayevbona and three others from Uteh Ekoko community in which the court restrained both parties pending the final determination of the suit.
In addition, the Igue-Ehana community had through their lawyer, S. O. Agwinede from S. O. Agwinede and co, in a petition to the Edo state commissioner of police, dated 22nd January, 2016 alerted the state commissioner of police and police investigative team of plot by some forces opposed to the community “to conceal the material facts of the pendency of this from you in order to misled the police into taking wrong decision”.
